So if I use the Speedmaster stinger which is 82.5mm long, then a drive dog:
A 4" extension rudder puts the rudders leading edge right through the centre of the prop,
A 5" extension rudder puts the rudders leading edge just beyond the back of the prop,
A 6" extension rudder puts the rudders leading edge about 30mm from the back of the prop.

Which way people ? ?

I think a 5" extended pair of rudders ??????

Yes that Apache on tardme is one of Tonys.

Wouldn't mind it myself for rough water

Hi guys
I've seen the regular apache and also the signature at HPM. Go for the Signature it's a way better boat. Some guys cut the regular apache down in height which gives it less windage and the signature is more along those lines.

Use a Speedmaster 6" standoff rudder with the centreline of the rudder 2 1/2" to the right of the centreline.

Send to insane boats in california and get one of their Stinger drives with a spare stinger nozzle and two of their stub shafts. It's a good design because you can easily use a ferrule type connection between the stub and flexi shafts (having said that I've just found that a piece tube welded over the join between the felx and stub shaft works really well.) You can do this with a speedmaster Stinger, but you need to put a spacer between the transom and the stinger to make clearance for the ferrule. The insane Stinger makes shft changes really quick and easy.

While you're at it get yourself a set of left and right hand dagger plates. Get the deepest ones you can. Helps turning and you can also turn left. You can get these from Insane as well.

I believe the Signature will most likely require a couple of trim tabs. Use eitehr speedmaster or insane. I don't believe you need those really long ones, but haven't tried them either.

You can buy the insane stuff from Tony Belle at AB marine, but he usually wants to sell you a whole set including the rudder. I have an in sane rudder but don't like it because it does not have bearings in the standoff for the pivot pin, and the holes wear oval. Use the Speedmaster Rudder, dual pickup straight blade.

For engine mounts buy yourself a set of Gizmo "lifetime" drop down mounts. They get your engine deeper into the vee and if they break, Gizmo replace them. They the same and interchangeble with CC and Insane mounts, but way better.

Get yourself a Quickdraw or redline (they're the same item) deep vee Hot pipe, we all run them and they're great for keeping the scale look of the boat. You just need to make sure you have good air movement through the hull.

Finally try and get yourself to Taupo for saturday, there'll be 22 boats sand you see what everybody else is doing.

Good luck with your build.

I managed to buy just a strut from Tony recently.

Bob, do you know much about these Apache's? Are they an aeromarine splash ?

Ive been thinking of getting something like this to come and run some offshores....

The cyber police won't let me see that Trademe add at work. If it's that one by that guy calling himslef hyper (the "other" tony and Kim) then I believe it is the aeromarine splash that had been done by Gordon Homewood.

As far as I know, Dean harris' Hulk and Damian's Hot Fuzz are both that particular hull. I believe that Phil Walmsley's scott electrcal is the same hull but cut down.

i may be wrong on one or more of those counts. but those "splashed hulls seem pretty good. I liked that orginal aeromarine shape when i first saw years ago, but now reckon it's too bulky, and certainly catches the wind more than others out there.

Mark Roscoe's Scarab is now owned by Tony Christiansen of tauranga. nice hulls but better for a big nitro or standard zen. They seem to be too narrow if you put too much of a torquey engine into them and just seem to want to chine walk all over the place with the bigger props modded engines can run.

What ever you get for offshore 57" is a great length for petrol boats.

Alternately for offshore, those bloody C1 cigarrettes with ASP 61 are damn hard to beat. Trust me I still can't beat them after 3 years of trying!

ye olde cyber police... at work I am the cyber police so I filter everyone else, but not myself though the proxy haha

The seller is called "Havoc702" Tony Oudshorn. They do look very much like an AM hull. Ive had a smaller hull of his a while back and it was laid up pretty well. Yeah not so keen on a dancing scarab, although Malcolm's one was probably the only boat ive ever seen do barrel rolls and then keep on going! :D

Do you guys have many people running the ASP's in the Hamilton club Bob?

Sorry yes it is havoc, there was a hyper at one time who wasn't HPM., Yes Tony and his wife partner's name is Kim! Yep that is the AM and I believe it is the mould that Gordon Homewood splashed.

ASP61's! anybody who's runing C1 runs one of those things. the beautiful Irony is that if you set a restricted class where you were only allowed to a cigarrette hull and an ASP 61 there'd be howls of protest from one end of the contry to the other.

But that's what everybody who's not running petrol runs! Steve T's isn't a cigarrette, but I believe he's found the mould for that hull and it's available again. He's actually putting together alist of hulls available for C1 offshore as apossible entry level class for their club.

Toanswer your original question we have about 5 cigarettes with various forms of nitro power and drive configurations in our club.
